Married to Lori for the past ten years. 5 boys ages 29,26,19,15,13. His two eldest sons are Sabres alumni who went through the program while Don was head coach. His 3 youngest boys played minor ball in Sherwood Park with the 2 youngest currently playing in Sherwood Park.

Wetaskiwin Sabre alumni graduated in 1975.
Played Junior football for the Red Deer Packers 1975 - 1978.
Started coaching at Wetaskiwin Composite High in 1983 as the offensive line coach, and has served as the offensive coordinator from 1989 to 2008 as well as Head coach / Co head from 1992 - 2008. Through these years, the Sabre have had much success. Central Alberta High School Champions 1986,1987,1989,1990,1992,1993,1994,2006. Provincial finalists in 1992, and Provincial Champions 2006.

Coached midget football from 2004 on with the Tri-county Freeze, Leduc StrayCats. Coached Spring 2009 with Battle River Shock as Co Head Coach and Offensive Coordinator

Coached Fall 2009 with the Wetaskiwin Atoms as offensive coordinator.

1992 Football Alberta Coach of the year.

2006 Football Alberta Tier 3 coach of the year
