Game Story:
MUSTANGS GIVE SHOCK ROUGH RIDE: On a beautiful night for football, the CDMFA Midget Tier I Championship was played Wednesday night at Foote Field with the Edmonton Mustangs coming out on top of the Battle River SHOCK by a score of 30-8.
The fans were vocal and cheered the SHOCK to a lead of 8-1 early in the second quarter on a beautiful Cole Stewart 64 yard pass to Tylor Henry. That would be it for the SHOCK offence as the Mustangs led 14-8 at the half, and scored 16 unanswered points in the second half. The game was marred by several penalties, including a 50 yarder against the SHOCK which saw the Mustangs kick off from the SHOCK, that's right, the SHOCK 15 yard line, something I've never witnessed in my 30 plus years of watching football ! Penalties aside, the Mustangs would be the only team the SHOCK would lose to this season, and I believe in giving credit where credit is due, so congratulations to the Edmonton Mustangs a very solid football team which included 3 players named to the Alberta U18 team which will compete nationally this summer. Also congratulations to the SHOCK's very own Tylor Henry also named to the Alberta U18 team. Way to go Tylor !

Now let me say it.... losing sucks! I hate it, always have, always will. However, over this season and in this Championship contest played by the 2 best teams in CDMFA Midget football..... I've found alot of things to love:
I love that for 60 minutes, in every game this season our players never gave up. I love that all game last night you could hear our coaches encouraging, teaching, and motivating our players. I love that all-star players from high school teams from all over central Alberta united together, supporting one another, leaving egos at the door even when times got tough. These young men proved their character. I love that we were able to have outstanding trainers to care for our warriors. I love that we knew our players would be protected thanks to our diligent equipment manager. I love that coaches would drive for miles, not only for practices and games, but also to review game tapes and game plans. Coaches your knowlege and love of the game is priceless.
I love that several volunteers, some with no one even on the team, have given countless hours to make this one of the most professional organizations I've ever been involved with. I love that we have a leader who is committed to this organization. Thanks Romonda! I love the encouraging support and dedication provided to our players from you the parents. I love the fact that I've met so many new people and friends through this short, yet powerful past few months. I love that I've had the honor and privledge of writing these stories for you, and that you've taken the time to read them. Finally, I love that I can show up to a game, cheer on the SHOCK, make a fool of myself, and my wife still lets me ride in the same car with her all the way home.
Man....I love this game !!!
Cheers,
Kelly
