About the Team

This club is run out of the Camrose-Wetaskiwin area, and will not take the place of Fall Football (Bantam and High School Football). Rather it will COMPLIMENT a player's Fall Football experience.

The team will be made up of boys in Grade 9 - 11 from the Battle River School District and beyond. We welcome boys who live along the Battle River i.e.: from communities such as Pigeon Lake, Wetaskiwin, Lacombe, Ponoka, Gwynne, Hay Lakes, Camrose, Round Hill, Stettler, Bawlf, Donalda, New Norway and Sedgewick.

The Camrose Minor Football Society's Board of Directors are pleased to announce that Maren Stevens and Don Loov will be continuing as Co Head Coaches for the Battle River Shock Midget Football club for Spring 2010.

Head Coaches Maren Stevens and Don Loov will be gathering a team of approximately 12 coaches to work with these athletes, promising a life-changing experience! As of March 1st, 2010 we have returning: Randy Labreque, Nick Fricke,  & Adam Belanger. New to our coaching staff this year, we have: Garner Kolybaba, Stan Morrow, and Brad Berger.  Our Mentor Coach is Danny Gusdal. Assistants to our coaches are: Dylan Graff and Danny Branco.

Charlene Hutchinson will be returning as our Head Trainer!

(See Coach Maren and Coach Don's Profiles) ( See Coaches Application Form)

We have a goal as a Club to play at Tier I this year, rather than Tier II. We want to play at the highest level of competition available to us.

BATTLE RIVER SHOCK FOOTBALL CLUB OBJECTIVES are:

  1. To have fun!
  2. Through hard work and dedication, to gain friendships and memories that will last a lifetime.
  3. Learning the value of cooperation and teamwork, you will experience success in the ultimate challenge of an 'all out competition.'
  4. *These lessons will carry you on to success throughout your lifetime!

BATTLE RIVER SHOCK FOOTBALL CLUB GOALS are:

  1. To promote the game of Midget Football in North Central Alberta
  2. To provide a level of football more competitive than High School
  3. To give Grade 9 players an experience that will prepare them for High School Football
  4. To create a football community where players can form friendships with players from other towns and cities
  5. To 'Shock' the city boys!
  6. To give our athletes more exposure to junior and university scouts on a weekly basis
  7. To improve your skills & overall understanding of the game of Football for players & coaches

 Tryouts

For 2010, we had 62 young men come out to tryout for a place on the Battle River Shock Midget Football Team. As of March 1st, we will have 50 left vying for the remaining 45 spots - Note: we have 10 Grade 9's left in this #, so Grade 9 players are set. Congratulations to you 10!   FInal Grade 10 & 11 spots are yet to be determined.

Following is our league's (CDMFA) criteria for roster:

ROSTER: Limited to a maximum of 45 players, broken down as follows:10 spots for grade 9's, 10 spots for grade 10's and a maximum of 25 spots for grade 11's. If the reserved spots for grade 9's can't be filled with grade 9's, then the spots are not filled at all. The same applies to grade 10's, except those spots can be filled with additional grade 9's, but not grade 11's. Roster will be electronically entered on CDMFA web site. Final roster must be completed by first full equipment practice. The final team roster with assigned Jersey numbers must be completed before the first regular season game. Grade 8 players are no longer eligible to play Midget football (RPP Rule 2.4 [c]).

Thank you to everyone who tried out!  If you are in Grade 9 or Grade 10 & were unsuccessful this year, please try again next year.  Note: if we have 75+ try out next year, we may even form 2 teams!
